While the Swiss TAG Heuer Monaco Automatic Chronograph Replica has unapologetically taken its rightful place in the recent vintage watch craze, it fortunately doesn’t ignore the fact that not everyone will be attracted to or desire to own something that was beloved half a century ago.
TAG Heuer’s latest and most daring re-edition is one that clearly throws the vintage watch trend completely aside: the Forged Carbon Fiber Re-edition TAG Heuer Monaco Automatic Chronograph Bamford Edition. Or rather, TAG Heuer hasn’t mentioned the exact name of the product in its official statement or on its website.
This watch is stunning to look at and worth a look. The 39mm case size is much larger than it actually is, so this Bamford version is quite similar to another Monaco series watch. The sporty design of the crown on the left and the pushers on the right are in line with the standards of Swiss TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph replica watches.
But their black PVD steel is not the case. The forged carbon fiber case has similar performance to the synthetic carbon fiber we have seen elsewhere, but considering this much more affordable Tempest forged carbon fiber, it does solve this problem, although I know it is not easy to remove sharp corners and harsh lines from this super hard material.
Speaking of which, while TAG Heuer and Zenith announced their partnership with BWD last year, this TAG Heuer Monaco Automatic Chronograph Forged Carbon Bamford Edition marks the first official collaboration watch, sold by TAG Heuer boutiques and e-commerce platforms in select countries. Beyond this collaboration, I’m not sure there’s much else to know.
Calling it the first collaboration watch should be seen as a marketing pitch for a brand that’s an ongoing operation. Regardless, customers who own this 500-piece limited edition will have factored this into their final choice. All in all.
