Before founding the company that bears his name in 1846, Ulysse Nardin was a watchmaker focused on complications. He also observed the rise of ocean and intercontinental exploration, which required precise marine and bank chronometers. He therefore established a vision for the company and put it into practice.
To this day, Ulysse Nardin has built a solid reputation on its long history of making marine watches for both civilian and military use. 2016 was a special year for Ulysse Nardin. It was the 170th anniversary of the brand, the 20th anniversary of the Ulysse Nardin Marine Chronometer and the 15th anniversary of the Freak.
New Models
To this day, Ulysse Nardin remains true to its nautical roots and its unwavering commitment to cutting-edge technology. In 2019, Ulysse Nardin built on its technical foundations with the launch of the Freak in white gold. They added an additional “flight regulator” to adjust the volume to 12Hz. That makes it one of the most cartoonishly eccentric watches since the original.
Limited Edition Ulysse Nardin Diver Chronograph White Titanium 44mm Replica Watch Guide 1
Later that year, they teamed up with former Marines to create one of their latest creations: the Diver’s Watch “Making Waves Again” Limited Edition. Did you know that the designers of the Ulysse Nardin Diver watches love sharks? And why not? They are the top predators that predate the dinosaurs.
Unfortunately, their survival is under great pressure from humans, whether it’s toxic substances or barbaric shark finning. Ulysse Nardin’s iconic ambassador is a 3.6-meter-long, 450-kilogram white shark, but that doesn’t mean they are any less important.
The dial is named “Ulysses” in honor of the brand’s founder, who was part of a collaborative project between Ulysse Nardin and OSEARCH. Ulysses was tagged so that underwater biologists could better understand the sharks’ migration patterns and behavior. When Ulysses last sent out a tag signal on October 1, it was in the Bay of Fundy near Nova Scotia.
This watch is full of marine details. The dial is grey with a sharkskin-like grain. The case of the Ulysse Nardin Diver is made of titanium and is slightly bulky, I guess, like that huge piece of white. It measures 44mm x 16.1mm, but its bezel has a white rubber lining, keeping the same shape as the common serrated bezel.
Movement
Water-resistant to 300 meters. To maintain the visual impact of the watch and create contrast, the Ulysse Nardin Diver has bright blue accents on the dial and date window. I love the white details on the chronograph pushers, which are particularly eye-catching at the joints. Under the beautiful caseback decorated with a beautiful white shark pattern, it is equipped with the UN-150 movement.
This highly regarded movement has been used by the company since 2013. It features a balance wheel, anchor and balance spring made of silicon and offers a power reserve of 52-60 minutes. Their decision not to show this movement is unusual in many ways. I have seen it on other Ulysse Nardin replicas and it is done to perfection.
Conclusion
On the other hand, there is not much room on the back for the portrait of Ulysses, which is the real star. This watch is limited to 300 pieces worldwide and will be available for pre-order in the United States starting in October. It will probably be available to the rest of the world in early 2022
